Shuffle

Shuffle is an investigative body of work attempting to trace the ecological impact and mineral manifestations inside of some of the most domestic of electronic devices. Using the ipod shuffle as its starting point and it positioning as a ‘dead’ device by contemporary consumer standards shuffle tries to trace the sheer impenetrable scale of the processes, industrial, logistic, environmental and historical that led to the discarding of this iconic mp3 player. As we trace these multiple overlapping journeys of rock and minerals from mine to market to factory and beyond we will also be uncovering the human stories that overlap and rub up against each other and are embodied in the electronic devices that are so ubiquitous in our every day lives.

Shuffle is a collaboration with Vladan Joler from Share Lab (anatomy of an AI) and will have multiple outcomes on multiple platforms as the research grows.
