Out From The Flood

Out From The Flood

Out From the Flood is a digital experience available online

The work visualises environmental data measured at the Oulanka Research Station in North-eastern Finland during COVID-19. It examines the time before, during, and the shift out of the first lockdown and how this period has influenced the environment in the Oulanka National Park

In the subarctic forests surrounding the Oulanka Research Station there are experiments to monitor environmental data dating back 50 years and designed to exist beyond our lifetime. Out From The Flood draws on that data and is a live dialogue with the research taking place. Data includes; Co2 measured at 2m from ground, air pressure, air temperature, soil heat flux, 3dimensional wind data, atmospheric radiation, Patoniva flood level, Kuusamo flight data, ongoing sound capture from Kuusamo airport, Ruka Ski resort, and Oulanka National Park.
This project is commissioned by The Finnish Cultural and Academic Institutes’ Together Alone project.
